Water Heater - Its Purpose and Invention

Winter is a favorite season for all. Hot tea or hot coffee and one blanket is the apt combination of winter. The one thing which scared us is bathing. We just cannot think of cold water. The one thing which can give us relaxation is hot water. Hot water is not for bath only, we can use hot water for any kind of household duties. For example cleaning cooking utensils, washing clothes, kitchen work, etc. A hot water heater provides the same.

What is a hot water heater?

Earlier water was heated using traditional methods like using a vessel and placing it on a heat source with water in the vessel. Once the water in the vessel starts to boil it indicates water has been heated to it has reached the boiling temperature. Hot water is useful for bathing, cooking, cleaning and a whole lot of domestic and commercial purposes.

But in this ways huge amount of energy was lost as the process used to happen in an open environment which results in improper heat intake and heat loss. To make it more efficient it was though why not to use a heat resistant chamber and put a heat source inside it and then throw water into it and then start the heat process.

How does it work?

This would call for efficient heat intake without loss. Post invention of electricity this idea became more feasible and the water heater was invented, so now the water heater is the electrical machine which tends to heat the water inside its container through copper rods. These copper rods work as the heat source and they are heated by passing electricity through them which in turn due to the nature of copper cause enough resistance in these rods to dissipate heat and energy.

Other than electric water heaters there are water heaters available which run on oil, gas or even solar energy but most of these alternate sources are used at industrial scale. For domestic purposes we only have electric water heaters, some do have gas heaters as well but they are not so safe. Since Hot water is necessary for both domestic and commercial purpose heaters are scaled from mall household heaters to huge commercial boilers.
